Timelines
This post has a good chunk of information to keep in mind; a lot of that information regarding characters, especially, will need to be considered while building the AU for yours. Three years is the maximum limit for how long your character has been here, and six months is the minimum.
The first step is considering just how much background you'd like to hand wave and hash out with your potential fellow players. Are you the type to really enjoy creating full AUs? Do you prefer most of your creativity going towards actual threads? Do you want a big found family, a small handful of tightly-knit group members, a sole best friend...?
All of those are the kinds of questions to consider before you really dive in.
When creating a timeline for yours, an easy first step is to use a bullet point system and list off a few major events. For example:
New Arrival; confused, tried to be friendly, fought at least one person
Three months in; awakens to FR ability alongside the closest CR
Five months in; major fight against the biggest enemy, falls into despair for a bit, shaken out of it by their best friend
Sometimes, just sticking to the basics will be more than enough for another player to come along and toss things to contribute, or to even "cushion" the time between those bigger events. The point is to not strain your brain trying to come up with everything on your own, if you find yourself struggling here. Nobody is expected to come up with a lengthy timeline on their own (nor is there any expectation to be able to help everyone else).
We're all here to have fun!

Previous CR
It's best to do this part after establishing at least some basic timeline (see above). While it's true that CR will be the main focus of TbF, having a consistent idea of what-happened-when will be important for the mod team; the NPCs, after all, have been a part of everything. Aside from that, everything else will be left to all of you! Try to have fun with forming a variety of friendships, conflicts, and more.
And those wishing to establish CR with anyone who's died or become a statue before game start is more than welcome! Just be sure to check in with/alert anyone who might be playing a castmate of that character, first, if applicable. While they won't get a final say on the existence of said character within this space, it's best to ensure no hard lines/wires are being crossed in any way.
People are welcome to toplevel with characters who died prior to TbF, in fact, so that there's a place to reference anything established.

NPC Interactions
There will be toplevels put up for all NPCs that have existed during this time. While we will strive to establish some preexisting CR with everyone set to come in, we may be a little slow with replying! If it's been more than a day or two, you're welcome to shoot us a reminder/ping in the interest check plurk.
Abilities
For the most part, the Classes system is fairly loose here, with some not being included due to plot/difficulty working them in. Either way, nobody will be tied to just one. Information on how they're grouped and what each one generally contains is still going to be provided for inspiration, as well. Click on each category below for more information, including examples:
DFFOO's Warrior of Light wields one of these.
This is the category for all those primarily relying on a sword of any kind; short sword, broadsword, etc. qualifies. Most characters coming in without any preexisting skills will be offered a blade of this type, as well as basic training with it. Should they choose to pursue further skills with this weapon, they'll be able to gain a variety of abilities related to it. Start out thinking of characters such as Tidus or Cloud Strife if you need ideas!
White Mage
Blue Mage
Red Mage
Black Mage
Time Mage
They most commonly use weapons such as staffs, staves, maces, etc. but this isn't a requirement. Some games have tied mage-like abilities to things such as rings, after all; go wild!
Thievery and such are not fixed to actual items. For instance, Yuffie "steals" buffs and throws debuffs at enemies, while Zidane "steals" health, as well as items and gil (money). There is endless room for creativity for TbF characters, so please feel free to let your imagination run wild for this role. Just remember that the downside of this role is usually the amount of damage output and durability.
Put simply: punching, letting go of all sanity, and/or unleashing fury onto the enemies are the specialties of this group. They're known for packing both literal and figurative punches, while unleashing a stream of attacks too fast for any normal eye to keep up with. If you think your character fits in a role like this, focus on the passion they pour into battle - whether it's the result of general passion or a buildup of fury. In a lot of cases, however, they may lack quite a bit of defense or ability to wield any actual weapon (other than fists).
Bow and arrows, guns, crossbows, and most ninja weapons. Attacks should focus on hitting from afar, and they can get as simple or as elaborate as desired. For example, one character in DFFOO summons an entire flying ship to hit every enemy with bombs! It can be ridiculous, trust us. These guys tend to stick to a distance for a reason, of course; their defense can be lacking.
Songs that enchant, heal, etc... Dance that motivates, brings despair, summons the forces of horribly damaging elements...
Put simply, any song or dance is fine with us. If your character is musically inclined, they're welcome to tap into that as much as their heart desires. Willpower, after all, is everything.
For these characters, they're sometimes not very physically... strong, durable, fast, or capable of doing much at all with their own two hands. It is sometimes (but not always!) all about the summons, when it comes to battle, for them. How much this remains for your character is up to you (we just prefer a balance of some kind).
Players are welcome to give special effects to go with any Jump abilities; some dragoons can heal the party between attacks, while still being up in the sky. Some just focus on attacks, as well as strengthening allies.
And summoners are the ones who'll be primarily relied on for summoning in this game! Any of the Summons found within the setting here will be mostly loyal to anyone with this as their Class. Otherwise, any "canon" summons they might have had will not be reachable here; they'll need to draw on their willpower to create new ones for this place.
These are the ones capable of jumping in front of any attacking and somehow surviving even the most fatal. With the strength of their heart, willpower, etc. they are the hardest to kill out of everyone in the group, hands down. And they don't always need a literal shield to manage doing so. Their health pool is bigger than Kefka's ego, and sometimes (though not always) at the cost of their damage output.
Of course, where their durability and any strength shines, their speed and ability to dodge in time is usually taking the biggest hit.
All characters have room for elements, whether it's due to innate ability or to enchantments.
Some characters will be capable of enchanting the attacks of other party members, while others will only be capable of hitting with certain elements. Feel free to get creative here, and remember that some of the fun is in collaborative fighting!
Swords (e.g. warrior, knights)
Mage (e.g. white, blue, red, black, time)
Generally squishy, but can do great heals, kills, and/or more from afar. They most commonly use weapons such as staffs, staves, maces, etc. but this isn't a requirement. Some games have tied mage-like abilities to things such as rings, after all; go wild!
Stealth (e.g. thief, ninja)
Zidane from FFIX, Yuffie from FFVII are good examples.Thievery and such are not fixed to actual items.
Fighter (e.g. monk, berserker)
Yang from FFIV, Tifa from FFVII, Queen from FFT0, Zell from FFVIII...Put simply: punching, letting go of all sanity, and/or unleashing fury onto the enemies are the specialties of this group.
Ranged (e.g. archer, gunner, also ninja)
One of Yuna's magical girl transformations in FFX-2 is a great example of this.Bow and arrows, guns, crossbows, and most ninja weapons.
Song & Dance (e.g. bard, dancer)
Penelo from FFXII takes on this kind of role for some attacks and abilities.Songs that enchant, heal, etc... Dance that motivates, brings despair, summons the forces of horribly damaging elements...
Put simply, any song or dance is fine with us. If your character is musically inclined, they're welcome to tap into that as much as their heart desires. Willpower, after all, is everything.

It is sometimes (but not always!) all about the summons, when it comes to battle, for them. How much this remains for your character is up to you (we just prefer a balance of some kind).
Dragoon
The literal sky is their limit. Jumping and floating midair for the entirety of a battle, while sending down attacks occasionally? Perfectly normal for them. And nobody would judge them wanting to stay out of the enemy's reach for that advantage, as long as they're still contributing to the battle!Players are welcome to give special effects to go with any Jump abilities; some dragoons can heal the party between attacks, while still being up in the sky. Some just focus on attacks, as well as strengthening allies.
Summoner
The party in FFVIII are great examples; the Guardian Forces AKA GFs vore memories in exchange for lending power.
Shields (e.g. paladin, most knights, general tanks)
Just think of someone like Gladio from FFXV.These are the ones capable of jumping in front of any attacking and somehow surviving even the most fatal.
Elements
Ignis and Alisaie are good examples (specifically, their skills in DFFOO).All characters have room for elements, whether it's due to innate ability or to enchantments.
Some characters will be capable of enchanting the attacks of other party members, while others will only be capable of hitting with certain elements. Feel free to get creative here, and remember that some of the fun is in collaborative fighting!

I kind of wondered what an FR attack would be like between them.
Sora | Kingdom Hearts (CRAU)
Contact Preference:
Character Name: Sora
Character Canon: Kingdom Hearts: DDD & Plenty of CRAU
Basic Info:
Now, this Sora is a clone of the original - he has all of the memories and skills of the original Sora, but he's been through a lot more. His first stop was a place called The Facility, where weekly experiments were run to try to break them into being perfect "weapons". There he spent the majority of his time, about 3 years of his life. He died a few times, almost broke just as much, and made so many friends that he also lost. The next stop on his journey was Destiny Strings, where everyone was granted a Persona. He didn't stay there long, hoping to get back to his friends somehow. Only to end up in Tre Purgatori, a place that had three cities and none of them very nice. He experienced a death here, along with a very "fun" experience in jail. :| Next he was off to a Final Fantasy based world, where he picked up some sweet new Santa abilities.
Then he was off to a post-apocalyptic Earth, where creatures that attacked based on sound reigned. He spent several months there before heading into a murder game! People died, they were in a Person 5 Palace, and he'd forgotten everything - was just straight from canon again. Then he remembered it all after the game was over. Spent some time with the SCP, then joined another murder game! This time it was KH-style, with Keyblades for all and another Sora. They defeated the big bad and escaped back to the same world he was in before the second murder game. Another murder game was attempted down in hell, only to fail. A year went by with nothing really happening, up until a third murder game was successful - not that he was there, but the main details are known to him.
They save some people, learn some truths about time looping, being in a dream, making friends, watching Riku have part of his heart eaten by darkness! It was great. :| Then some people were spirited off to a post-apocalyptic world for some death, fighting, murder, and mystery in a TWEWY-style before returning just in time for another apocalypse! Ragnarok style. As that was winding down, Sora and several others got spirited away to a boat where people played games that were designed to hurt, though he was not picked for this and had to watch all of the games via television. After they returned from that, Sora got a tiny bit of knowledge that had happened while they'd been gone, before ending up here. Yes, it's a lot, and I applaud anyone for getting this far.

no, he actually doeshas very strong feelings and fluster for Death.CR Wanted: Friendships, getting a bestie, Sora being a teacher, Sora being a student! Adoptive parents, or siblings, people he will cry over when they're gone (for Past Heroes), sparring buddies, people he dislikes.
CR Unwanted: Um, I'm open to pretty much anything. Romance will be a little difficult, tho.
Special Notes: Sora is my absolute reserve for Trial by Fire. I have two OCs for Past Heroes that I'll be tossing into the collection, and play one of the main 3 NPCs. Also because Sora has aged 4 years, yes, this is a PB for older version.

Kosuke | OC
Contact Preference: Plurk (
Character Name: Kosuke
Character Canon: OC
Basic Info:
☆ Kosuke looks around 17-18, but his exact physical age is unknown and his mental age is. Complicated. He's a mortal reincarnation of the Greek god Apollo and has partial memories of all his past lives. His current life is dominant but the others still influence his viewpoint, skills, and maturity to an extent.
☆ He can be blunt to the point of abrasive and doesn't have any patience for being lied to. He's seven different kinds of traumatized by a very dark past in this life. He also has a temper; it's not always easy to set off but can be dangerous. However, he's a kind person at heart and a healer by nature. His first instinct is usually to help.
☆ Kosuke is not a god anymore but he does still have powers and ties to the domains he held as Apollo. The sun in particular is vital to him, and he is inherently a force of Light. He's an excellent archer, a healer, and a prophet, among other things.
☆ People who know Greek myth should probably not ask about his sister, it will make him sad. Alternatively, if you are down for pain, ask away.
Please don't comment here so I can edit.
☆ 5 years ago, Kosuke arrives with the first known group of warriors. Only Turmś and the gods have been here longer. He and Turmś have their first fight.
☆ 3 years ago, some of the current group arrive. Kosuke acts as an archer and a healer. He's not tactful, but he's helpful and willing to answer questions.
☆ 3 years ago still, Kosuke is also clearly Going Through Some Shit and he's not happy about it. Particularly attractive or strongly darkness-aligned people might make him whine, curse someone named Ryu, and/or go hide for a bit.
☆ 2 years ago, Kosuke started power leveling hard. Like, very intent on growing stronger, beyond just the strength they need to survive here.
☆ 1 year ago, Kosuke acquires a tiny, fluffy black puppy that follows him everywhere and somehow has no trouble surviving in this monster-laden world. It functions fairly well as an emotional support animal; Ko is calmer with the exception of his fights with Turmś.
CR Wanted: Ko deserves only good things but give him all the things anyway. Non-zero chance that flirting with him is At Own Risk, though.
CR Unwanted: N/A
Special Notes: Kosuke is my definite reserve for Trial by Fire, though I might also toss someone for Past Heroes. I'm also playing one of the main NPCs.

Zero | Drakengard 3/Drag on Dragoon 3
Contact Preference: PM journal, Plurk (
Character Name: Zero
Character Canon: Drakengard 3/Drag on Dragoon 3
Please don't comment to this so I can edit!
She is an Intoner, one who is gifted with the ability to manipulate magic through songs. She is the eldest and the most powerful of the Intoners. Zero is on a killing spree and relentlessly hunting her sisters.
Zero's left arm is prosthetic. She gains a distinctive flower growing out of her right eye, which continues to grow. Mikhail is her trustworthy partner.
Zero has a violent disposition and is easily irritated, having no tolerance for anything complicated or repetitive. She doesn't care about her own appearance in the slightest, and has little regard for her health due to her ultimate fate. Often apathetic and bitter, she is prone to scoffing at anyone or anything which distracts from her main objective. In the Japanese script, she has a quirk for flippantly switching to polite language. When she does this, it's often used as build up for a satirical insult. Her haughtiness is occasionally mocked and played for laughs, especially when she appears to be confident in herself. In the English script, she is far more foul-mouthed, and her voice actress Platt uses a harsher tone than Uchida.
Michael was the only being Zero had trusted. The two partners were close and understood one another well. Zero is haunted by her dreams of their time together after his death. She initially feels emotionally detached from Mikhail –since the two dragons are completely different from one another– and refuses to call him by name; she insists that Michael is the only one who can have that right. Over the course of their adventure, however, Zero's feelings for him soften as she instructs and relies on him. She eventually becomes attached to him with maternal endearment.
While she mostly either ignores or threatens them, Zero does have some fondness for the disciples she takes on after killing their original mistresses. She briefly shows moments of melancholy if they should die for her, but spares them no mercy if they should betray her.
