Timelines
This post has a good chunk of information to keep in mind; a lot of that information regarding characters, especially, will need to be considered while building the AU for yours. Three years is the maximum limit for how long your character has been here, and six months is the minimum.
The first step is considering just how much background you'd like to hand wave and hash out with your potential fellow players. Are you the type to really enjoy creating full AUs? Do you prefer most of your creativity going towards actual threads? Do you want a big found family, a small handful of tightly-knit group members, a sole best friend...?
All of those are the kinds of questions to consider before you really dive in.
When creating a timeline for yours, an easy first step is to use a bullet point system and list off a few major events. For example:
New Arrival; confused, tried to be friendly, fought at least one person
Three months in; awakens to FR ability alongside the closest CR
Five months in; major fight against the biggest enemy, falls into despair for a bit, shaken out of it by their best friend
Sometimes, just sticking to the basics will be more than enough for another player to come along and toss things to contribute, or to even "cushion" the time between those bigger events. The point is to not strain your brain trying to come up with everything on your own, if you find yourself struggling here. Nobody is expected to come up with a lengthy timeline on their own (nor is there any expectation to be able to help everyone else).
We're all here to have fun!

Previous CR
It's best to do this part after establishing at least some basic timeline (see above). While it's true that CR will be the main focus of TbF, having a consistent idea of what-happened-when will be important for the mod team; the NPCs, after all, have been a part of everything. Aside from that, everything else will be left to all of you! Try to have fun with forming a variety of friendships, conflicts, and more.
And those wishing to establish CR with anyone who's died or become a statue before game start is more than welcome! Just be sure to check in with/alert anyone who might be playing a castmate of that character, first, if applicable. While they won't get a final say on the existence of said character within this space, it's best to ensure no hard lines/wires are being crossed in any way.
People are welcome to toplevel with characters who died prior to TbF, in fact, so that there's a place to reference anything established.

NPC Interactions
There will be toplevels put up for all NPCs that have existed during this time. While we will strive to establish some preexisting CR with everyone set to come in, we may be a little slow with replying! If it's been more than a day or two, you're welcome to shoot us a reminder/ping in the interest check plurk.
Abilities
For the most part, the Classes system is fairly loose here, with some not being included due to plot/difficulty working them in. Either way, nobody will be tied to just one. Information on how they're grouped and what each one generally contains is still going to be provided for inspiration, as well. Click on each category below for more information, including examples:
DFFOO's Warrior of Light wields one of these.
This is the category for all those primarily relying on a sword of any kind; short sword, broadsword, etc. qualifies. Most characters coming in without any preexisting skills will be offered a blade of this type, as well as basic training with it. Should they choose to pursue further skills with this weapon, they'll be able to gain a variety of abilities related to it. Start out thinking of characters such as Tidus or Cloud Strife if you need ideas!
White Mage
Blue Mage
Red Mage
Black Mage
Time Mage
They most commonly use weapons such as staffs, staves, maces, etc. but this isn't a requirement. Some games have tied mage-like abilities to things such as rings, after all; go wild!
Thievery and such are not fixed to actual items. For instance, Yuffie "steals" buffs and throws debuffs at enemies, while Zidane "steals" health, as well as items and gil (money). There is endless room for creativity for TbF characters, so please feel free to let your imagination run wild for this role. Just remember that the downside of this role is usually the amount of damage output and durability.
Put simply: punching, letting go of all sanity, and/or unleashing fury onto the enemies are the specialties of this group. They're known for packing both literal and figurative punches, while unleashing a stream of attacks too fast for any normal eye to keep up with. If you think your character fits in a role like this, focus on the passion they pour into battle - whether it's the result of general passion or a buildup of fury. In a lot of cases, however, they may lack quite a bit of defense or ability to wield any actual weapon (other than fists).
Bow and arrows, guns, crossbows, and most ninja weapons. Attacks should focus on hitting from afar, and they can get as simple or as elaborate as desired. For example, one character in DFFOO summons an entire flying ship to hit every enemy with bombs! It can be ridiculous, trust us. These guys tend to stick to a distance for a reason, of course; their defense can be lacking.
Songs that enchant, heal, etc... Dance that motivates, brings despair, summons the forces of horribly damaging elements...
Put simply, any song or dance is fine with us. If your character is musically inclined, they're welcome to tap into that as much as their heart desires. Willpower, after all, is everything.
For these characters, they're sometimes not very physically... strong, durable, fast, or capable of doing much at all with their own two hands. It is sometimes (but not always!) all about the summons, when it comes to battle, for them. How much this remains for your character is up to you (we just prefer a balance of some kind).
Players are welcome to give special effects to go with any Jump abilities; some dragoons can heal the party between attacks, while still being up in the sky. Some just focus on attacks, as well as strengthening allies.
And summoners are the ones who'll be primarily relied on for summoning in this game! Any of the Summons found within the setting here will be mostly loyal to anyone with this as their Class. Otherwise, any "canon" summons they might have had will not be reachable here; they'll need to draw on their willpower to create new ones for this place.
These are the ones capable of jumping in front of any attacking and somehow surviving even the most fatal. With the strength of their heart, willpower, etc. they are the hardest to kill out of everyone in the group, hands down. And they don't always need a literal shield to manage doing so. Their health pool is bigger than Kefka's ego, and sometimes (though not always) at the cost of their damage output.
Of course, where their durability and any strength shines, their speed and ability to dodge in time is usually taking the biggest hit.
All characters have room for elements, whether it's due to innate ability or to enchantments.
Some characters will be capable of enchanting the attacks of other party members, while others will only be capable of hitting with certain elements. Feel free to get creative here, and remember that some of the fun is in collaborative fighting!
Swords (e.g. warrior, knights)
Mage (e.g. white, blue, red, black, time)
Generally squishy, but can do great heals, kills, and/or more from afar. They most commonly use weapons such as staffs, staves, maces, etc. but this isn't a requirement. Some games have tied mage-like abilities to things such as rings, after all; go wild!
Stealth (e.g. thief, ninja)
Zidane from FFIX, Yuffie from FFVII are good examples.Thievery and such are not fixed to actual items.
Fighter (e.g. monk, berserker)
Yang from FFIV, Tifa from FFVII, Queen from FFT0, Zell from FFVIII...Put simply: punching, letting go of all sanity, and/or unleashing fury onto the enemies are the specialties of this group.
Ranged (e.g. archer, gunner, also ninja)
One of Yuna's magical girl transformations in FFX-2 is a great example of this.Bow and arrows, guns, crossbows, and most ninja weapons.
Song & Dance (e.g. bard, dancer)
Penelo from FFXII takes on this kind of role for some attacks and abilities.Songs that enchant, heal, etc... Dance that motivates, brings despair, summons the forces of horribly damaging elements...
Put simply, any song or dance is fine with us. If your character is musically inclined, they're welcome to tap into that as much as their heart desires. Willpower, after all, is everything.

It is sometimes (but not always!) all about the summons, when it comes to battle, for them. How much this remains for your character is up to you (we just prefer a balance of some kind).
Dragoon
The literal sky is their limit. Jumping and floating midair for the entirety of a battle, while sending down attacks occasionally? Perfectly normal for them. And nobody would judge them wanting to stay out of the enemy's reach for that advantage, as long as they're still contributing to the battle!Players are welcome to give special effects to go with any Jump abilities; some dragoons can heal the party between attacks, while still being up in the sky. Some just focus on attacks, as well as strengthening allies.
Summoner
The party in FFVIII are great examples; the Guardian Forces AKA GFs vore memories in exchange for lending power.
Shields (e.g. paladin, most knights, general tanks)
Just think of someone like Gladio from FFXV.These are the ones capable of jumping in front of any attacking and somehow surviving even the most fatal.
Elements
Ignis and Alisaie are good examples (specifically, their skills in DFFOO).All characters have room for elements, whether it's due to innate ability or to enchantments.
Some characters will be capable of enchanting the attacks of other party members, while others will only be capable of hitting with certain elements. Feel free to get creative here, and remember that some of the fun is in collaborative fighting!

Contact Preference:
Character Name: Sora
Character Canon: Kingdom Hearts: DDD & Plenty of CRAU
Basic Info:
Now, this Sora is a clone of the original - he has all of the memories and skills of the original Sora, but he's been through a lot more. His first stop was a place called The Facility, where weekly experiments were run to try to break them into being perfect "weapons". There he spent the majority of his time, about 3 years of his life. He died a few times, almost broke just as much, and made so many friends that he also lost. The next stop on his journey was Destiny Strings, where everyone was granted a Persona. He didn't stay there long, hoping to get back to his friends somehow. Only to end up in Tre Purgatori, a place that had three cities and none of them very nice. He experienced a death here, along with a very "fun" experience in jail. :| Next he was off to a Final Fantasy based world, where he picked up some sweet new Santa abilities.
Then he was off to a post-apocalyptic Earth, where creatures that attacked based on sound reigned. He spent several months there before heading into a murder game! People died, they were in a Person 5 Palace, and he'd forgotten everything - was just straight from canon again. Then he remembered it all after the game was over. Spent some time with the SCP, then joined another murder game! This time it was KH-style, with Keyblades for all and another Sora. They defeated the big bad and escaped back to the same world he was in before the second murder game. Another murder game was attempted down in hell, only to fail. A year went by with nothing really happening, up until a third murder game was successful - not that he was there, but the main details are known to him.
They save some people, learn some truths about time looping, being in a dream, making friends, watching Riku have part of his heart eaten by darkness! It was great. :| Then some people were spirited off to a post-apocalyptic world for some death, fighting, murder, and mystery in a TWEWY-style before returning just in time for another apocalypse! Ragnarok style. As that was winding down, Sora and several others got spirited away to a boat where people played games that were designed to hurt, though he was not picked for this and had to watch all of the games via television. After they returned from that, Sora got a tiny bit of knowledge that had happened while they'd been gone, before ending up here. Yes, it's a lot, and I applaud anyone for getting this far.

Kosuke | OC
Contact Preference: Plurk (
Character Name: Kosuke
Character Canon: OC
Basic Info:
☆ Kosuke looks around 17-18, but his exact physical age is unknown and his mental age is. Complicated. He's a mortal reincarnation of the Greek god Apollo and has partial memories of all his past lives. His current life is dominant but the others still influence his viewpoint, skills, and maturity to an extent.
☆ He can be blunt to the point of abrasive and doesn't have any patience for being lied to. He's seven different kinds of traumatized by a very dark past in this life. He also has a temper; it's not always easy to set off but can be dangerous. However, he's a kind person at heart and a healer by nature. His first instinct is usually to help.
☆ Kosuke is not a god anymore but he does still have powers and ties to the domains he held as Apollo. The sun in particular is vital to him, and he is inherently a force of Light. He's an excellent archer, a healer, and a prophet, among other things.
☆ People who know Greek myth should probably not ask about his sister, it will make him sad. Alternatively, if you are down for pain, ask away.

NPC 1: Turmś
Contact Preference:
Character Name: Turmś, The Guide, some assortment of swears (e.g. "fucker")
Character Canon: N/A
Info: Turmś is a cranky, bratty, and stubborn healer. His specialty is tracking/finding new Warriors, but it's painfully obvious he resents every single "hero"... at least for the first few years. It's only around the time that the last group came in (AKA 6 months ago, OOCly) that he started to soften just a little.
Also he shares his body with a jerk calling himself Ryu.

NPC 2: Seuyal
Contact Preference:
Character Name: Seuyal
Seu - pronounced like "shoe" (rhymes with boy)
yal - pronounced like "y-ah-l"
Character Canon: OC
Info:
Seuyal is a god, here he is the God of Balance for the Heroes. His age? He's forgotten, but as far as he remembers, he's always been a god. The world he comes from is called Alteria, and his long-time lover is Kreyos. Seuyal is a warm and compassionate god, who sometimes acts like he has ligthning coursing through his veins. Loyal and true to his lover, he doesn't look outside for a relationship. Though, mess with Kreyos and find out just how stormy this god can be. When he decides to help someone, he really goes all in. Otherwise, he's a little flaky and well... kind of a himbo. But a kind himbo.
He will be available for contact on the regular, but isn't really here to fight their battles for them or offer up protection. Ah, and he has the ability to just Know Everything about a character, but he has to actively use this power.

NPC 3: Kreyos
Contact Preference: Plurk (
Character Name: Kreyos, pronounced kee-yohs
Character Canon: OC
Info:
Kreyos is the current God of Chaos for this world. He's old, probably, but you wouldn't think it to meet him. In his original world of Alteria, he was the God of Fire and it shows. Kreyos is impulsive, temperamental, and doesn't really have lines when it comes to acting on his desires. His lover, Seuyal, is able to rein him in a bit. Or rather, Seuyal is able to distract him effectively enough to keep him from destroying the world on a whim.
He is available for contact regularly but if he doesn't think you're pretty enough he'll probably hang up on you. If he gets bored, he'll probably hang up on you. If he gets angry, the best case is that he only hangs up on you.
If you're really pretty and interesting, he'll probably hit on you. If you're not into redheads, he's not married to being one? He can look however he wants.
He is also capable of Knowing Things about everyone but he only bothers if something catches his interest.

NPC 4: Ryu
Character Canon: OC
Info: This is the one that occasionally comes out to play, so to speak, whenever Turmś "falls asleep". Not much else is known about him... and seeing him used to be an extremely rare encounter. Around 6 months ago, that suddenly changed. Characters will be able to know that he's been out at least four times since the most recent group arrived, six months ago. That's more frequently than his public appearances during the rest of the time, combined (so, like... maybe 7 times, total...?).
It's theorized that he is a dragon, but there's no concrete evidence, as of the game's start.

PAST HEROES SUBMISSIONS

Character Canon: OC | Here (do not believe everything you read here, but some are true)
Info: Old as dirt, Sin was the Mesopotamian god of the moon. He had been lost from his universe since... who knows when, and somehow ended up here. Basically, all you need to know about his past, is that he was very good at his job. In TbF, he was a Dragoon with an FR attack with Ko - which was basically sending down sun and moon power on the enemies. He was often alone, hanging out in high places away from others, also read a lot of books. Very serious and quiet individual, who wasn't great at conversation or making friends. Trained everyday to ensure his abilities would be able to protect others. He died at the very end of the first year, he went out protecting Ko from a fatal attack.
Positive CR: Closest with Ko and another from the first year, Kamadeva, who is also a god from his world. But he would have liked people related to the sun most, or others relating to the sky in general. People who didn't rowdily disturb his quiet, but were still interested in talking to him. Sparring partners.
Negative CR: Very rowdy individuals - people who were a-holes, who didn't care about others at all.
Other CR: Just anyone that legit ignored him or was rude to Ko or Kamadeva. There also was no romances for him - not looking for any either.
Special Notes: Only people who existed in the first year would have known him.
no subject
Character Canon:OC (Same universe as Sin)
Info:
Maman is old and preferred to be called "they/them", and they are also a god. If anyone ever asked, they were told that Maman was a deity over the dead who has a husband somewhere out there - only ever called the Baron to others. They ended up in TbF in the first year, and were around until two years ago. Maman would have been a "mothering" sort of individual, who also liked to share some alcohol with those who wanted to try it. They would have ensured no one did anything stupid and cut them off. Maman was Ranged, and used a machine gun as their weapon. All Maman really wanted, was to go home to husband.
Positive CR: Taught Ko all about modern day guns, helped Akira understand alcohol. ???
Negative CR: Kreyos. Maman seriously disliked him and just... everything he is. It had nothing to do with his job here, just... /gestures to all of him.
Other CR: Nothing yet.
Special Notes: I have not figured out how Maman has died yet in year 3 - it was probably really early tho. So if anyone has any ideas, toss them my way. Sorry, but they are not dying for anyone when they have a husband to get home to.

Character Canon: OC
Info: Here is the gist of it, but this version is from a universe where humans molded a lot more than RL humans do... but also there was this kid that made a deal with this Eldritch being and said kid kind of accidentally'd a whole multiverse with warped versions of everyone, including gods.
Anyway Kamadeva is the embodiment of love and balance, though not in the bubbly sense. He's a very calming presence, and he takes/processes social cues quickly. Some people use that phrase "read the room"? Basically, he's got that whole figurative book memorized, word-for-word... A lot of his flaws amount to... caring too much, in a lot of ways. While he's capable of enduring emotional blow after emotional blow, when with his full godly powers, every death will have crushed him for a little while. Each moment of grieving will have felt just a terrible as the last, and he will have come to develop a subtle guilt complex. Only subtle because he dies before he has a chance to form a huge one.
Funnily enough, he is a firm believer of mental health over physical, because everything starts in the mind. He will do everything in his power to assist anyone in that endeavor.
... Odds are, though, he just poured all his willpower/powers/life force into strengthening the team for some terrible boss fight, and that's what killed him.
Positive CR: It'd be difficult to get negative CR with him, so...
Negative CR: ... seriously, I'd be impressed if something like that was managed.
Other CR: More likely than not, anyone outside the positive box was somewhere here.
Special Notes: Only those in the first year got to meet this one.

Character Canon: OC
Info: age, rough canon background, rough TbF background, temperament, general routine, biggest goals/desires, etc.
Born into the Valentine family fifty-four years ago, his family owns one of the most prominent electric companies - run by his paternal grandfather. His entire family are vampires, his parents being turned after giving birth to Kazimir as is tradition. At the age of 22, he went out to find a vampire that was willing to turn him in order to prevent himself from growing older. His grandfather was pleased when he came out with gold eyes - the same as him. After graduating from college, he began working for his grandfather's company often working the floor before during his free time, pressured by his guardian to have a proper work ethic. Around his 24th birthday, Kazimir started going out to collect lovers and would take to biting them - whether they became vampires or a monster was up to them. So far he has made 13 vampires and 59 turned to monsters.
Kaz is suave and willing to sleep with people he finds interesting, but doesn't really do getting attached. Charismatic, friendly, but aloof in sharing his own personal life and story. May have shared that vampires are made through biting and sexual acts. He had relations with Kreyos, but his real interest was another Hero named Abraham - also a vampire. Anyone physically under the age of 18 is off the table for sexual partner, but feel free to see if yours ended up as a love 'em, and leave 'em. He was a black mage.
Positive CR: Friends, people who put up with him, bed partners (probably won't be serious)
Negative CR: People he's hurt/turned down, or said they'd "just be friends", who may have gotten bitten/turned (only also past Heroes, plz and over 18), people who hate him
Other CR: Abraham is his only serious relationship
Special Notes: Arrived three years ago, died last year. Probably died shielding Abraham, but absolutely admitted that he loved him in those final moments. Bc I'm cruel and so is the dice.

Character Canon: OC CRAU/AU
Info: ~135-year-old father of vampire hunters. He witnessed the creation of the first vampire - Vlad III Dracula (later came to be known as Count Dracula). Abraham - AKA Abe - comes from a world where vampires came to be disguised as fictional, via novels.
Bram Stoker was Dracula's first loyal follower, but Abe never learned this part... He only knew Bram as this asshole who publicized a very traumatic part of his life; he does not appreciate the "evolution" of his character self, at all, either.
In any case, he's obviously not human (given his age)... and that's something that happened as the result of experimentation with vampire blood, saliva, etc. The outcome created something... very difficult to control, within himself. The short version is that he half-intentionally made himself into something not all that different from vampires.
He's able to do things such as entering private locations without an invitation, go outside into the sunlight, eat human food... But he cannot handle the smell of garlic, breaks into a cold sweat whenever he's within ten feet of a "holy" (of any religion) site. Jewelry that comes with a cross will cause a pretty gnarly rash/scar.
Positive CR: Kaz, Vanitas(??? somehow), Brayker. He likely got along with a good majority of people, frankly.
Negative CR: Vanitas... lol. Likely Zero, too.
Other CR: Most deities, anyone divine.
Special Notes: He wouldn't need blood, unless very injured. Healing spells would only ever hurt him more, here. :>
